"Delicious by Daisy
After listening for only a few minutes, you're already leaning in hugging your cup of coffee closer. You're listening intently as if the two of you were sitting across the kitchen table together and though really you're just leaning into the phone—you can't help it—star chef Daisy Martinez is gushing about the new recipes she's testing while in the same breath blending you into her morning as easy as a mango smoothie.

Street-Food Showdown at the 2008 Vendy Awards

[Via NY MAgazine]

The fall chill was dispelled in DUMBO yesterday by the raging grills at the 2008 Vendy Awards. The highlight of this year's competition was a new category for dessert trucks. Wafels and Dinges didn't show, but artisanal-ice-cream guy Ben Van Leeuwen battled the Treats Truck and Dessert Truck for bragging rights. Grub Street's Alexandra Vallis was on hand to speak to some of the competitors, question decisions by judges Eater X and Calvin Trillin, and see who took home street food's highest honor.

Daisy hosts her second Spoons Across America dinner with the wonderful students at Mark Twain, Brooklyn

Spoons Across AmericaWow, They Did It Again!
Such complex dishes as Chicken Kiev, Pomme Dauphinoise and Panna Cotta can be a challenge for even professional chefs. So it is especially impressive that a group of 13-year-olds - most with no previous cooking experience - mastered those and more in the span of just six weeks. But under the sure tutelage and encouragement of renowned chef Daisy Martinez, that's just what a class of 7th graders at Mark Twain IS 239 in Coney Island, NY did as part of Spoons Across America's Dinner Party Project this past April.
